New laws on Stamp duty

The law on Stamp Duty changed for first- time buyers on the 9th July 2007. The change means first –time buyers of new or second hand houses or apartments (who intend to occupy it as their main place of residence) with certain conditions are now exempt from stamp duty when they purchase their house. The new exemption came into effect on 31st March 2007. Any first time buyers who had bought since 31st March 2007 will now be exempt from stamp duty. If you are in this group and have paid stamp duty, you are entitled to have it refunded. For more information log on to www.revenue.ie or contact your local revenue office
